In the U.S. the Coast Guard and industry collect AIS data, which can also be used for a variety of coastal planning purposes. NOAA and BOEM have worked jointly to re-task and make available some of the most important records from the U.S. Coast Guards national network of AIS receivers. Information such as location, time, ship type, length, width, and draft have been extracted from the raw data and prepared as track lines for analyses in desktop GIS software. Horizontal Positional Accuracy Maximum scale of intended use is 1:80,000. Completeness Report Spatial and attribute properties are believed to be complete, although attribute information has been simplified. Geometric thresholds from original data are preserved. No tests have been completed for exhaustiveness. Conceptual Consistency These data are believed to be logically consistent. Geometry is topologically clean. 1 Download all 2011 geodatabases for UTM zones 17, 18, and 19 from https://marinecadastre.gov/AIS/default.aspx as well as the AIS Track Builder tool. 2 Create model for each of the UTM zones to run the track builder tool on each of the monthly Broadcast feature classes. Settings used for the tool was to break track lines using "Maximum Time and Distance", maximum time value = 30 and maximum distance value = 1. Also included both the Voyage and Vessel attributes. Ran Model for each UTM zone. 3 For months April through December in Zone 18 deleted data points from the Broadcast feature class falling outside the United States UTM 18. Used Esri's World UTM Grid from ArcGIS online for reference. 4 CLIP Broadcast points for each of these months that fell within the Esri's World UTM Grid for New York. Renamed these "Broadcast_NY" for data sets not containing these points renamed to "Broadcast_NonNY" 5 Create relationship classes between each of these new Broadcast_NY and Broadcast_NonNY with their respective Vessel and Voyage tables per month. 6 Create model to run the track builder tool for Zone 18's months April - December Broadcast_NY and Broadcast_NonNY feature classes. Using same settings as detailed in Process Step #2. 7 MERGE all Zones 18 NY and NonNY track lines together per month. 8 MERGE of all monthly track line feature classes for each of the UTM zones. Now have 3 feature classes representing total 2011 annual vessel traffic for each UTM Zone 17, 18, and 19. 9 Removal of superfluous fields 10 Create model to create max draught in meters field for annual feature class, calculate statistics to find the maximum draft value, create new field "maxDraught" in this statistics result intermediate feature class, add values to this new field using field calculator in expression: [max draught statistic] *0.1. This calculation converts the draught values form 1/10th meter units to meter units.
