These animals, called benthos, are crucial to the health of Puget Sound. We collect sediment samples to help us understand what the sediments are like physically and chemically and how they support different species. \n\nBenthic samples have been collected since 2015 from 14 sites. Every 2 years we sample eight sites in Elliott Bay and every 5 years we collect samples from three deep sites in the mainstem of the Central Basin and three smaller embayments. We also collect benthic samples near treatment plant outfalls as well as cleanup sites. \n\nBenthic samples are typically collected in replicates (3-5 samples per location and period of time). These replicates help us understand the variability of the benthic community at that location and are distinguished by the fields \"Sample Rep ID\" and \"Field Replicate\".\n\nFor corresponding benthic biomass data see: Marine Benthic Biomass Data.\n\nFor questions about the data, please contact MarineWQ@kingcounty.gov.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "downloadURL": "https://data.kingcounty.gov/api/views/er5r-bf3q/rows.csv?accessType=DOWNLOAD", "mediaType": "text/csv"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "describedBy": "https://data.kingcounty.gov/api/views/er5r-bf3q/columns.rdf", "describedByType": "application/rdf+xml", "downloadURL": "https://data.kingcounty.gov/api/views/er5r-bf3q/rows.rdf?accessType=DOWNLOAD", "mediaType": "application/rdf+xml"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "describedBy": "https://data.kingcounty.gov/api/views/er5r-bf3q/columns.json", "describedByType": "application/json", "downloadURL": "https://data.kingcounty.gov/api/views/er5r-bf3q/rows.json?accessType=DOWNLOAD", "mediaType": "application/json"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "describedBy": "https://data.kingcounty.gov/api/views/er5r-bf3q/columns.xml", "describedByType": "application/xml", "downloadURL": "https://data.kingcounty.gov/api/views/er5r-bf3q/rows.xml?accessType=DOWNLOAD", "mediaType": "application/xml"}], "identifier": "https://data.kingcounty.gov/api/views/er5r-bf3q", "issued": "2024-08-29", "keyword": ["sediment", "invertebrate", "marine", "identification", "benthos", "benthic", "abundance", "puget sound"], "landingPage": "https://data.kingcounty.gov/d/er5r-bf3q", "modified": "2026-01-12", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "data.kingcounty.gov"}, "theme": ["Environment & Waste Management"], "title": "Marine Benthic Abundance Data"}
