Development is on the rise despite the fact that coastal infrastructure is subjected to flooding and erosion.  As a result, there is an increased demand for accurate information regarding past and present shoreline changes.  To meet these national needs, the Coastal and Marine Geology Program of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is compiling existing reliable historical shoreline data along open-ocean sandy shores of the conterminous United States and parts of Alaska and Hawaii under the National Assessment of Shoreline Change project.\nThere is no widely accepted standard for analyzing shoreline change.  Existing shoreline data measurements and rate calculation methods vary from study to study and prevent combining results into state-wide or regional assessments.  The impetus behind the National Assessment project was to develop a standardized method of measuring changes in shoreline position that is consistent from coast to coast.  The goal was to facilitate the process of periodically and systematically updating the results in an internally consistent manner.", "distribution": [{"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.58b8912ae4b01ccd5500c302.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata"}, {"@type": "dcat:Distribution", "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/F74X55X7", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", "title": "Digital Data"}], "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_58b8912ae4b01ccd5500c302", "keyword": ["United States", "Shoreline", "Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center", "Florida", "Digital Shoreline Analysis System", "Jupiter Island", "USGS:58b8912ae4b01ccd5500c302", "Transect", "Miami Beach", "Historic Shoreline", "FL", "North America", "Coastal and Marine Geology Program", "Orchid Island", "Key Biscayne", "U.S. Geological Survey", "WHCMSC", "Atlantic Coast", "Delray Beach", "Boca Raton", "Short-Term Shoreline Change Rate", "USGS", "coastal processes", "CMGP", "Palm Beach", "End Point Rate", "Erosion", "National Assessment of Shoreline Change Project", "environment", "DSAS", "Accretion", "Cocoa Beach", "oceans", "geoscientificInformation", "effects of coastal change", "Hutchinson Island", "erosion", "Melbourne Beach", "shoreline erosion", "Pompano Beach", "St Lucie Inlet", "shoreline accretion"], "modified": "2024-03-19T00:00:00Z", "publisher": {"@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "spatial": "-80.614618, 25.663760, -80.016207, 28.168087", "theme": ["geospatial"], "title": "Digital Shoreline Analysis System version 4.3 Transects with Short-Term End Point Rate Calculations for southeastern Florida (FLse)"}
