To help ensure consistency between shoreline geometries and to aide temporal analyses, pre-existing shoreline datasets were used to compare the extent of digitization of the new shorelines. Inspection of shoreline accuracy was completed by analysts who did not digitize the original shoreline. This secondary inspection was completed at scales equal to or larger than those used during digitization. To assess classification accuracy, shoreline classification reaches were randomly selected and inspected. The classification inspections were completed by scientists with local expertise in Great Lakes shorelines and proven aerial image interpretation experience.
