The Nome geophysical survey is located in western Alaska in the Nome mining district, about 825 kilometers west of Fairbanks, Alaska and just north of Nome, Alaska. Frequency domain electromagnetic and magnetic data were collected with the DIGHEMV system from August to September 1993. A total of 3856 line kilometers were collected covering 1361.02 square kilometers. Line spacing was 400 meters (m). Data were collected 30 m above the ground surface from a helicopter towed sensor platform ('bird') on a 30 m long line. The data, as well as additional metadata, are available from the DGGS website: http://doi.org/10.14509/30189. This airborne geophysical survey is part of a program to acquire data on Alaska's most promising mineral belts and districts. The information acquired is aimed at catalyzing new private sector exploration, discovery, and ultimate development and production. The purpose of the survey was to map the magnetic and conductive properties of the survey area. Nearly 5 million ounces of placer gold have been produced in the Nome mining district since 1899. Mineral prospects in the survey area include the Rock Creek lode and Bulk Gold. Other gold and base-metal anomalies, altered zones, favorable lithologies, and structural zones are known to exist throughout the survey area. Distin and Nome TWP, were retrieved from a binary archive delivered by the contractor in 1993. This was accomplished using the DIGHEM/I*POWER's proprietary Archive Data Extraction program (ARCEX) v. 1.01 in DOSBox v. 0.74-2 to extract the linedata as a Geosoft .xyz ASCII file. The data was then merged with the 2004 Nome linedata in Geosoft and exported as a new Geosoft .xyz file. The new term 'sim_magtf' has been created to rename and clarify that the data are not representative of the true total magnetic field as the IGRF values have been removed with a single average value added back to the entire dataset, resulting in the IGRF gradient being removed.
