    Lineage The MK21 Oceanographic Data Acquisition System and software produces two files (.rdf and .edf) for each XBT cast. The .edf file is an export data file that can be opened with a text editor (e.g. Microsoft Notepad) and contains detailed information about the probe, the location of the cast, and the temperature collected at incremental depths.
